Whirlpool Corporation
Nashville Area Habitat for Humanity, along with 300 volunteers covering all 50 states, joined with Whirlpool Corporation in November 2006 to inaugurate “Building Blocks"—an annual event—building 10 Habitat homes in just 5 days. “Whirlpool Building Blocks is really about bringing people together from all over the country to build homes in partnership with deserving families," said Jeff Terry, director, Corporate Commitments for Whirlpool. "If we can help bring people to experience the life-changing work of Habitat for Humanity, hopefully everyone will go back home with an urgency and energy to continue Habitat’s work in their home town and around the country.” Presentations, dinners and ceremonies were held at Gaylord Opryland Hotel, where the volunteers stayed for the week long event.
DaimlerChrysler Financial Services
In January 2007 DaimlerChrysler Financial Services partnered with Nashville Area Habitat for Humanity during their annual convention at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel. In one afternoon 650 DCFS employees built interior and exterior wall panels for 16 new Habitat homes to be constructed in the spring. “Habitat for Humanity helps people to help themselves and to break the vicious cycle of poverty through homeownership, " said Klaus Entenmann, President and CEO of DaimlerChrysler Financial Services Americas LLC. "We are pleased to partner with Habitat for Humanity to build on our commitment to financial empowerment in our communities.” It all happened come rain or shine, being that weather was not a factor since the build took place inside the hotel’s large convention facilities.
Schneider Electric/Square D
Nearly 100 sales engineers from Schneider Electric/Square D reported to LP Field just after dawn on March 8, 2007 for a unique team-building experience. They were in Nashville for their national convention and devoted an entire day to Nashville Area Habitat for Humanity. They constructed both interior and exterior wall panels for three Habitat homes which will be built in Providence Park, the largest all-Habitat community in the U.S. located in southeast Nashville. LP Field, home of the Tennessee Titans NFL team, let their parking lot be used for the event and the volunteers had lunch inside the stadium.
Wachovia Bank
“We care about being bankers, but we also care about being Nashvillians and participating in something this important. This community is what we’re all about. And today we’re out here hoping to accomplish a number of things. First is to give back to the community. Second is to participate in team-building and third is just to have some fun,” said Don MacLeod, Regional President, Wachovia Bank, Nashville, TN.
“I think it’s important for employees in the community to participate in these kinds of events because it gives us an opportunity to be a part of something bigger than our individual roles in this huge corporation. It also demonstrates that even as a large corporation, we can still have meaningful impact in the communities we serve,” said Deborah Morris, Retail Banking Director, Wachovia Bank, Nashville, TN.
CMT
“As 4th of July (2007) week comes to a close, I hope you will all celebrate the remarkable achievement of our co-workers. If you were part of the build, then you know how gratifying it was to watch CMT’s Habitat for Humanity family take possession of their lovely new home, custom-built by CMT staff, with the help of the family," said Brian Philips, executive vice president & general manager of CMT. "We were privileged to cut the ribbon on the 300th Habitat home built in the Nashville area. One Country’s director, Lucia Folk, led this effort with strength and vision. The build was funded by ticket sales from Reba’s L.A. GIANTS last year. Reba and Kelly Clarkson were key to our success.”
Joseph Gregory Hall
Joseph Gregory Hall, who lives in Nashville, has worked on numerous Habitat construction projects in various parts of the country and has been deeply moved by the partner family children’s responses when they see their new home. “It was one of the most remarkable things in my life. If I ever wrote a book, it would be in it. The eyes of that little girl turning her head were a Rockwell moment.” Also, Joseph has made numerous donations to the NAHFH HomeStore while remodeling his home. "Thank you. I appreciate all that you do and God bless you all very, very much. We’re very thankful to have people like you all in this life of ours.”
