Building Communities
Nashville Area Habitat began building whole communities of Habitat homes in 2003, with the “Nine for Nashville” build in Providence Park. Since then, we have completed Providence Park and we’re in our second build season on Timberwood.
The reason for building communities rather than putting single homes on infill lots around town is that the bond and support among Habitat families is very important to their continued success. All partner families have all been in the same HomeWORKS classes — many of them together — long before they purchase and move into their homes. Habitat homeowners report that they feel safer knowing who their neighbors are before they move in, and they know they can count on each other to be good neighbors.
All Nashville Area Habitat communities have homeowners’ associations, which gives all members ownership of not only their individual homes but also the neighborhood they live in together. They form Neighborhood Watch groups, celebrate at annual events, and make life-long friendships.
Timberwood
In 2007, Nashville Area Habitat purchased and began developing their second Habitat community,Timberwood, in northwest Davidson County. Construction began in 2008, and the potential 112-home community should be finished by 2010.
Park Preserve
In 2008, Nashville Area Habitat purchased more than 220 acres of land in north Nashville on which to build the agency’s next community, Park Preserve. Land development will begin this year, and construction on the first 34 homes will begin in 2010. By 2020, Park Preserve will be home to 380 families.
