When your group partners with NAHFH to create decent, affordable shelter for Nashville families, you're doing more than building a house. You're investing in lasting change.
Building a Habitat home focuses your organization's internal energy around a common goal … helping hard-working families achieve their hopes and dreams for a better life. The houses you build together create new neighborhoods and communities that are changing the face of Nashville forever. Supervisor On Site (SOS)
Challenge yourself to become one of Nashville's finest builders, improve your leadership skills and have a blast! We invite you to join our amazing SOS team.
We appreciate your interest in Nashville Area Habitat for Humanity, Inc. Your involvement with Habitat allows our family partners the opportunity to learn building skills, patience, and cooperation. We are currently building homes at Providence Park, the nation's largest all Habitat home community. When this project is complete, we will have fulfilled the dream of homeownership for 140 Nashville families.
Supervisors on Site provide hands on leadership during the construction of the houses, while working with family partners and sponsor volunteers. Our current SOSs understand the Habitat mission, communicate the principles and goals of Nashville Area Habitat for Humanity, are patient teachers and are committed to giving back to the community.
The qualifications are modest:
- Possess a positive attitude.
- Bring a cooperative spirit.
- Help us provide a safe building experience.
- Read and understand NAHFH safety books.
- Learn to operate power tools safely and efficiently.
- Encourage the proper use of safety equipment.
- Demonstrate safe building procedures.
- Become proficient at one or more building tasks.
- Be willing to "see one, do one, teach one."
- Provide motivation and encouragement to a diverse group of family partners and volunteers.
- Assist in providing a productive and fun experience for all volunteers.
We do not ask for a specific commitment. We merely ask that when you arrive on site you are prepared to eat sausage biscuits, drink plenty of water, exercise muscles that you forgot you had, and above all, know that you are joining an exceptional group of people that get far more than they give. Youth Volunteer Opportunities
Involve young people from the age of 5 to 18 in building the volunteer spirit, while assisting Nashville Area Habitat for Humanity staff and partner families to break the cycle of poverty. Youth projects include activities such as fund raising to pay for a day of construction, landscaping activities, building decorative items for the homes such as bird houses, and working with NAHFH staff and partner families in our HomeWORKS adult education programs. Beyond the build...
Nashville Area Habitat for Humanity offers great opportunities to reach out to your community beyond the building of houses.
The Habitat HomeStore is a retail store operated by Nashville Area Habitat for Humanity to provide a new source of funding to build Habitat homes in the Nashville area. The Habitat HomeStore sells new and used home-related items and building materials at generous discounts to the public. All proceeds are used to construct more Habitat homes to sell at zero percent interest to people who may not be able to afford a conventional mortgage. Since opening in January 2004, The Habitat HomeStore has generated enough revenue to build two Nashville Area Habitat homes. The HomeStores are located at 1001 8th Ave. South and 908 Division Street. Store hours are 9:00 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Saturday and closed on Sunday.
Volunteer opportunities include: carpentry and craft projects, unloading trucks, stocking, cleaning, retail and assisting customers. If interested, contact Mike Allen, 254-HOME (4663) ext. 224.
Habitat HomeWORKS classes are offered to partner families helping them to learn valuable skills they will need during and after they build and purchase their homes. Course topics include construction basics, home maintenance, financial management, healthy living, gardening and more. Classes are offered weekday evenings and Saturday mornings.
Volunteer opportunities include: sharing your knowledge with others in a small class setting, providing child care for parents attending classes. If interested, contact Ellen Hingst at 254-4663, ext 230.
Habitat Office Volunteers – Have free time on weekdays? Join us at the Nashville Area Habitat for Humanity offices for ongoing and special projects. We are always looking for reliable, self-motivated people to help. If interested, contact Mike Allen, 254-HOME (4663) ext. 224.
