Dickson community shows support for Habitat for Humanity at Houses of Hope luncheon

At the third annual Houses of Hope luncheon sponsored by TriStar Bank on March 22, the Dickson community showed its continued support of Habitat for Humanity’s efforts to help more residents become homeowners with contributions totaling $30,000.
“We are just so thankful for the generosity people have shown,” said Chris Greene, director of the Dickson Division. “The economic challenges of the past couple of years have been hard on communities like ours, and it’s so inspiring to see what people can do when they work together toward a goal of providing more affordable homes. We’re also grateful to TriStar for underwriting Houses of Hope again this year.”
Two hundred people attended the luncheon, which was held at the Renaissance Center. Nashville Area Habitat board member Martha Shepard and TriStar Bank president and CEO Ted Williams spoke at the event, and homeowners and partner families shared their personal stories.
The proceeds of the luncheon will support efforts to start a Habitat HomeStore in Dickson.
“If we can start a HomeStore here, it will serve as another source of funding for us to build homes,” said Greene. “It will give people opportunities to donate gently used home-related items, a place to shop for bargains and a way to reduce trash going to the landfill.”
Additional benefits from the HomeStore include tax write-offs for merchandise donors, jobs, volunteer opportunities and a retail outlet that offers real savings in these tough economic times.
