Nashville Area Habitat for Humanity awarded national Youth Programs grant from State Farm

Nashville Area Habitat for Humanity was awarded a $10,000 grant through State Farm's national sponsorship of Habitat's Youth Programs.

The funds will go toward Nashville Area Habitat for Humanity's 2008 Youth United Build, which will involve 250 youth to construct a house in Timberwood, the agency's second affordable housing community located in Davidson County. Those who are involved this year include: Vanderbilt University Habitat Chapter, Belmont University Alpha Sigma Tau, Trevecca University, Hume-Fogg High School, Brentwood High School, East Literature Magnet High School, John Overton High School, Hermitage United Methodist, Second Presbyterian, Rocketown and Starbucks.

The build will take place over four consecutive weekends, September 27, 2008 October 19, 2009. For more information on how to get involved, please contact Lauren Lane at (615) 254-4663, ext. 273.

Pledging more than a million dollars nationwide, State Farm is providing an unprecedented amount of resources for the program which seeks to engage young people, ages five to 25, to involve them as current and future leaders in Habitat for Humanity's efforts to eliminate substandard housing and poverty in communities.

Habitat's Youth Programs department coordinates volunteer opportunities that engage tens of thousands of young volunteers each year. The program also serves as a resource for more than 600 Habitat for Humanity campus chapters at high schools, colleges and universities around the world.
