Share your knowledge and life experience with future homeowners in a small class setting. HomeWORKS classes are offered to partner families, providing valuable skills they will need during and after they build and purchase their homes. Course topics include construction basics, home maintenance, financial management, healthy living, gardening and more. Classes are offered weekday evenings. Volunteer instructors have the options to teach one or more classes each quarter.

What topics are covered in the HomeWORKS classes?
Homeownership, construction safety, financial management, community involvement, lawn care and various personal enrichment topics such as gardening, health & nutrition, conflict management, and recycling.
Where are the classes held?
At the Habitat office on 1006 8th Avenue South.
When are the classes held and how long do they last?
Classes are typically held on Monday and Thursday evenings with an occasional Tuesday and Saturday class. Weeknight classes are 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. and Saturday classes may last from 4 – 8 hours.
Who attends the classes?
Families who are currently in the program earning the required sweat equity to build their homes.
How many people come to the classes?
Classes may have up to 20 participants.
Who teaches the classes?
Community volunteers, Habitat staff, and Habitat homeowners.
Do you have any instructional equipment available such as computer-assisted learning?
Yes, we have a new adult classroom that includes a PC with PowerPoint capability, a DVD player and overhead projection with remote controls. We also have "low tech" equipment including whiteboards, flipcharts and markers.
Do you have classes for children and/or teenagers?
We are currently working on structured curriculum development for children ages 5-11 and ages 12-17.

What if I don't want to teach a class, but still want to be involved with families in some capacity?
We offer opportunities to act as a budget coach with families. We also have childcare and general office opportunities.
What is a budget coach?
Budget coaches work one on one with an assigned partner family for one to two months. During this time, coaches assist and encourage the family to successfully manage their money using a budget. Coaches also assist their partner families with other financial topics as needed.
Is training provided?
Yes, some training is provided for both HomeWORKS instructors and budget coaches depending on experience.
Households in Providence Park contribute more than $150,000 in property taxes per year to Metro Nashville.
